`Fanny's Dress`

The 1829 depiction of Fanny Hardwick was the inspiration for the creation of this muslin dress, decorated with images for birds of the Sydney Harbour area. Many hand-me-downs were passed onto Aboriginal people when they worked as domestic servants for early settlers. This dress is a fantasy about what it would have been like if, instead of liberty print cottons, the dresses were printed with images of the local people’s totem animals.
